OUR SUCCESS

Our Success

The Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers’ Association (PVMA) is mindful of allotting itself high goals and then ultimate efforts are undertaken to achieve the self-assigned high standards. Some of the achievements of this aspect are as follows:

Upgrading of Machinery/Equipment

PVMA signed MOU with Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB-Government of Malaysia) under which MPOB provided technical experts, who visited Pakistan and educated/assisted the local Vegetable Ghee & Cooking Oil (VG&CO) Industry on up gradation of its existing plants/machinery so that best “Manufacturing Practices” are adopted by all concerned. It also helped in doing-away with old and redundant process, thereby substantially reducing the cost of production and improving the quality.

Visits Abroad / Trainings & Seminars

In last 3 years, PVMA organized 8 tours (each consisting of 4-5 persons), for the entrepreneurs/staff of the Sector to Malaysia, in consultation with MPOB. The basic aim of these visits was to understand the “Price Outlook” of edible oil Sector in the International Market. This helped tremendously in improving the understanding of price surge of the Palm Oil in International Market, thereby reacting to the situation accordingly. It ultimately helped in saving the precious foreign exchange through intelligent buying/selling of the Palm Oil

Smooth Supply of Edible Oil.

After having signed a MOU with National Logistics Cell (NLC), through a Public Private Joint Venture in December 2007, the operation of supply of edible oil through NLC commenced in April 2008. This was establishment of “Alternate Line of Transport”, by which PVMA ensured unhindered supply of edible oil from Karachi upwards through NLC, thereby ensuring supply of VG&CO at all the desired locations in shortest possible time, effectively negating the ill effect of riots and strikes (as repeatedly experienced during the last 3 years), thus ensuring availability of the product – every time, and within specified prices.

Construction of Liquid Cargo Terminal.

A dedicated Liquid Cargo Terminal (LCT) has been constructed ( and commissioned since 2008) through Private Sector ( a PVMA member), which is dedicated for discharging of imported edible oil. This is in addition to the existing Marginal Wharf-1 (Govt. owned), being used for the purpose. This new terminal has speeded up the process of supply of edible oil, through dedicated Jetty, resulting into elimination of chances of demurrage, hence saving huge foreign exchange.

Primarily to improve the standards of VG&CO, within affordable prices, ensuring its all time availability, the PVMA self-assigns high targets and then strives to achieve them through constant effort of improvement.
